What is Anxiety?


Anxiety shows many forms and, currently, is being discussed quite frequently throughout social media and other platforms. Our courses, which include professional teachers who are experts in their respective fields, touch on childhood anxiety and how to help. But maybe we should take a step back and learn first, what exactly is anxiety, what does anxiety stem from, and how do I know if it’s really anxiety that my child is experiencing.


 It’s been recorded that almost 4% of the global population live with some type of anxiety disorder. Yes you heard that right, about 275 million people. Everyone experiences these struggles differently, the signs, the effects, they all come in many forms. Now, the American Psychology Association defines anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure. Anxiety can take many forms, as people feel this way for any number of reasons. Some children experience separation anxiety, test or public speaking anxiety, and more. 


A Community Study of Anxiety in Children and Adolescents, a well-written peer-reviewed article takes to the community to study how anxiety is affecting children and adolents. Why is anxiety a rising concern for our children, what can we do to help control this overwhelming issue? 

As a parent, teacher, or even a friend, supporting those in our community and lives who struggle with anxiety is so important. Depending on your role in these children's lives there are different avenues. Many books from The Worried Child to Helping children Cope with Change, Stress, and Anxiety discuss how to effectively help children navigate anxiety and its different triggers. 


Taking our courses  Helping Children Understand Anxiety and Promoting Positive Behaviour, and Anxiety in Children and Why it Occurs will provide many strategies, tips and insight into what causes anxiety in children. Discussion boards will allow you to connect with other teachers and share ideas, experiences, and more on how to deal with this growing issue!
